Senior MySQL Database Administrator

Our client is a global Fintech leader, and we are looking for a Senior MySQL Database Administrator ready to take the next step in their career and transition into a leadership role. In this position, you will play a crucial part in managing and optimizing our client’s critical MySQL database systems, with mentorship provided to support your growth into a DBA Team Leader role. Reporting to the Data Platform Director, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, contributing to database performance, design, and development.

Responsibilities:

• Support MySQL database operations, including installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting
• Collaborate with development teams to optimize queries, software deployments, and contribute to database design and performance tuning
• Monitor and optimize the health and performance of MySQL databases
• Join on-call rotations to solve critical database issues and ensure uptime
• Take responsibility for backup, recovery, replication, and health checks of MySQL databases
• Provide technical support for database environments, including software installation, upgrades, and patching
• Begin to take on leadership responsibilities by mentoring junior DBAs and learning to manage team operations under the guidance of senior leadership

Requirements:

• 5+ years of experience as a MySQL Database Administrator in production environments
• Experience with database design, optimization, and performance tuning in MySQL
• Strong understanding of MySQL installation, configuration, and management
• Exposure to PostgreSQL or willingness to learn PostgreSQL administration
• Experience with AWS or Azure, particularly with database services like RDS
• Proficient in Linux/Unix, including shell scripting and server analysis
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues efficiently
• Fluent in English (spoken and written) with excellent communication skills
• Desire to grow into a leadership role and mentor junior DBAs
